My name is Katrina Christiansen, and I am running to flip North Dakota’s Senate seat blue.
There is no tool more valuable to the career politician than a polarizing issue.
Civil rights, women’s rights, gay rights, the list goes on. It’s easier to drive a wedge between voters than it is to actually stand up for something.
The silver bullet that Republicans used to roll out every cycle was reproductive rights. Some of them felt a strong moral obligation to do so, but most of them just saw it as a way to snag a few votes, and if some women got hurt in the process, so be it.
Recently I spoke about the terrifying events in Arizona that have already hurt so many. Now we’re seeing one of the most restrictive bans in U.S. history being attempted in Florida. If it passes, a public health crisis is predicted to follow.
But hey, it gets votes…
Or does it?
Just as many Republicans are doubling down on the cruelty, others are finding that their secret weapon may have dulled over the years. First we saw pro-choice wins in Kansas, then some more left leaning states like New York and California. Before long we were seeing wins in Ohio, what’s going on?
People are finally sick of it. They don’t want to be exploited by career politicians using their morality against them. They’re waking up to the fact that regardless of their beliefs, women are hurt when thoughtless legislation is passed in the name of being “pro-life”. More and more people are choosing to leave those choices up to women in the doctor's office, and not to men in suits in Washington.
Abortion used to be a silver bullet for the Republicans, now it looks like it could be their greatest weakness
Now the Republican Party is in disarray, do they double down on what’s worked before even as they’re faced with evidence that it’s not going to work this time around? Do they back-pedal and try to find something else to campaign on?
The thing is, most of them simply don’t know how. They’ve spent their careers pitting us against each other, and now that we’re coming to a consensus: Get the government out of my medical decisions, they don’t know what to do.
So now’s the time to stand up. Support my campaign, and other campaigns like mine. Get real leaders into positions of power while the empty suits fight amongst themselves.
When career politicians prioritize their own agendas, it often results in policies that hurt women and families. In contrast, grassroots activism empowers communities to take care of themselves and build a stronger future.
Thank you for everything,
Katrina
You have my vote, Katrina, 100%, but we need to do more than Roe. I recommend Jessica Valenti's substack "Abortion, Every Day." It's a priceless resource.
The major issue at stake is the FREEDOM of Americans to make decisions for themselves. And here we thought that was what Republicans stood for. But, you can see how they change their stripes when they want something. First they are for this, then they are not, then they are for that, then they are not............A vote for a Republican is a vote to give up your FREEDOM. Sadly they all now walk in lock step and don't dare step out of line, they are that afraid.
