My name is Katrina Christiansen. I am running for U.S. Senate in North Dakota against Kevin Cramer, for the seat that Senators Heitkamp and Conrad once held. Wednesday is our major end of month deadline.
I’m not a career politician – not even close. I grew up in a small rural town where my family relied on government assistance to get by. With determination and hard work, I graduated as valedictorian of my high school. I earned two degrees from the University of Nebraska and a Ph.D. in agricultural engineering from Iowa State University. I’ve created three patents, I’ve worked in various roles in the ag industry and currently teach engineering at Jamestown University. I’m the mother of three ranging in ages 6 to 15.
I know what it’s like to struggle to make ends meet. That’s why I became so fed up watching politicians – like Republican Senator Kevin Cramer – take millions in corporate PAC donations and ignore the needs of everyday Americans. I just knew that I had to step up.
I watched vulnerable seniors forced to choose between paying for medications or keeping the lights on. I watched hardworking parents who struggled to put food on the table or send their kids to college. I watched caring families torn apart as their loved ones battled addiction. So, I decided to run for office to fight for the people who’ve been left behind.
I’ve spent my career solving problems – and now, I’m ready to replace Kevin Cramer in the U.S. Senate and show him how it’s done.
I’m not running for political gain or prestige. I’m running to fight for working families, solve tough problems for our communities, and leave the world a better place for my children and yours.
My greatest mission is to create a better world for my kids than the one I grew up in. If you’re a parent, I’m sure you feel the same way.
Frankly, I refuse to sit by and do nothing, knowing that Senator Kevin Cramer tried to cut the affordable healthcare that so many families rely on. I refuse to sit by and do nothing while hardworking parents struggle to find affordable housing or childcare for their kids. I refuse to sit by and do nothing while the women of North Dakota worry that one of their most fundamental rights – how and when to have a family – will be stripped from them entirely.
Democrats have a razor-thin Majority in the Senate. With Senator Manchin’s retirement announcement has left our Majority hanging by a thread. Our race to flip this North Dakota Senate seat has never been more vital. I will vote to end the filibuster and codify Roe. We can win this race, and I have the polling to prove it.
Our campaign recently commissioned our first internal poll and results were eye-opening. Some toplines are:
The initial head-to-head has me at 29% and Cramer at 54%. This is to be expected as less than one-third of voters have even heard of me. But we closed the gap 10 points since the Emerson poll in October without a penny spent in paid media, showing significant potential.
Only 33% of voters want to reelect Senator Cramer, 54% want to replace or will consider someone else.
Only 42% view Cramer favorably, and 45% viewing him unfavorably. 24% of Republicans don’t approve of the job he is doing.
When hearing positive messages for both candidates, I take the lead, 45% to 43%.
When negative messages are incorporated, the final ballot has the race tied at 40% each.
Senator Kevin Cramer is a lifetime, lackluster politician, who has previously lost three statewide races in North Dakota, with mediocre polling numbers. His favorability is below water, his job approval flat, and his reelect is a dismal 33%. He is “more of the same” from Washington. He is part of the problem and not part of the solution.
I’m the polar opposite of Kevin Cramer and represents that change that voters want: I’m not a politician; I understand first-hand the challenges people face, I am a problem solver, and I’m an outsider unafraid to tackle the status quo in Washington. In December, we released our launch ad video with outstanding results, as the video has over 6 million views. You can watch the ad here.
We can win this race but I need your help. You can donate here.
I look forward to talking to you from the trail.
Always in service,
Katrina
